Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks in Los Angeles this Holiday Season

Sure Los Angeles boasts balmy temperatures between 60's and 70's from Thanksgiving to New Year's while the rest of the country shivers. But that doesn't mean we don't appreciate wintery activities (beyond heading to the beach). Like anyone else, Los Angeles locals yearn for a good skate during the holidays. And by skate, we do indeed mean outdoor ice skating via the marvels of technology. So dust off those hockey and figure skates and head to these five outdoor ice skating rinks around Los Angeles.

ICE at Santa Monica
From November 3 to January 16, the coastal community of Santa Monica erects an 8000-square-foot ice skating rink at the corner of 5th Street and Arizona Avenue. Open daily, ICE offers skating lessons, through the Randy Gardner School of Skating, as well as cabana rentals for private events. Bring the family, hang out with friends, but above all, have fun. Admission, including skate rental is $15.

Queen Mary's CHILL Ice Skating
Keeping with the theme of ice skating by the ocean, the historic Queen Mary presents "CHILL," which is the ship's annual holiday adventure. In addition to various holiday events and live shows, the Queen Mary exhibits a 6000-square-foot outdoor rink in front of the ship built with real ice. Open daily through January 8, admission price for skating is $15 for a 45-minute session and includes skates.

Ice Skating Pershing Square
In the middle of the downtown's high rises, historical buildings and bustling commerce sits Pershing Square. During the holiday months, this urban public space transforms into the Holiday Ice Rink Pershing Square presented by Bai. From November 10 to January 16, visitors can enjoy this winter wonderland of ice for a general admission price of $9, plus a $4 skate rental.

LA Kings Holiday Ice at LA Live
In its ninth year, LA Kings Holiday Ice at LA Live has been an extremely popular rink. Located on Microsoft Square outside of the Microsoft Theater and across from Staples Center, LA Kings Holiday Ice is opened daily (mostly evenings) from November 26 to January 7. With a gigantic Christmas Tree as its center as well as the bright and vibrant neon from surrounding businesses, including ESPN, this ice rink also radiates inspiration from the two-time Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings.

Holiday Ice Battle Ship Iowa presented by LA Kings
This holiday ice rink, also sponsored by the LA Kings, is on the deck of the historic Battleship Iowa located in San Pedro. The Battleship Iowa was one of the last U.S. Navy Battleships that was commissioned in 1943 and saw battles during WWII, the Korean War, and the Cold War. This floating naval museum hosts for the first time this fine holiday ice skating rink from November 19 to January 8. Between 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., skaters can lace up for one of two sessions, each costing $15.
